Bergamo
was founded on a hill by a first very old settlement in the
protohistoric age, which gave it the configuration that still
characterizes it: the oldest part of the town, enclosed within walls,
lays up on the hill while
the modern centre has developed on the plain.
In Bergamo and its surroundings people can discover monuments and
artistic objects of uncommon beauty, as well as important historical
and cultural witnesses, hidden among hills, mountains, country
landscapes, rivers and lakes.
